A general rule to working out how much thinning your lens will require :

 0.00 – 3.00: Standard thickness

 3.00 – 6.00: 1.6 lens

 6.00 – 8.00: 1.67 lens

 8.00 – 10.00: 1.74 lens

 10.00 and above – glass lenses

Here is an example of the effect of thinning on a plus and minus 4.00 lens:

Other Factors:

Size of Frame – The further your eye sits from the centre of the frame, the thicker the lens edge of the lens will be.

This process will be applied vertically if you go for a deep lens.

A big frame will require a bigger lens blank – this makes the lens thicker.

Exposed lenses will look thicker than they are.
